Dalla trascrizione all'acquisizione

Buon Ascolto!

In this teaching video, I’d like to talk to you about an interesting exercise. In my opinion, a transcription (like the ones you find here on this site) is not to be taken simply as something you should perform as accurately as possible on your instrument, but as a subsequent step toward creating a “database” of material from which you can draw different elements to incorporate into your playing. Now let me suggest a way you can practice with this material. In this video, I’ve chosen two bassists who may seem very different from each other in both the historical period and context in which they played, but whose styles can both be characterized as very full, varied and featuring very rich rhythmic and chromatic movement: James Jamerson (on the tune “What’s Going On”) and our own Nicola Fasani aka Faso (on the tune “Amore Amorissimo”). First we’re going to listen to a short segment of each song, and then I will play the “style” of each bassist over the same music track (in the key of C). You’ll find that track at the end of the video so you can explore it too in the ways I’ve discussed here. Enjoy!
